WEEK 6 - DAY 42

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” - John 10:10

The thief comes to distract us from the life that Jesus purchased for us through His death and resurrection. It is easy for us to lose our time to our work, our hobbies and our social media ‘life’. To live a life full of these things will only lead to an eternity of death and destruction. Satan does
not care how he distracts us so long as he is successful in diverting our eyes from the life Jesus calls us to. Jesus came to lay down His life to preserve us from the thief. He opened up a path for us to be restored and communicate directly with God. His departing gift to us was the power of the
Holy Spirit, given to guide us through life with strength and wisdom - a truly abundant life.

So ultimately, we have two choices; we can allow the enemy to distract us, living the superficial and empty life that Satan wants us to follow, or we declare Jesus as our Saviour and receive not only the free gift of eternal life, but also a ‘resurrected’ life here on earth, rich, full, joyful and overflowing with God’s grace.

Prayer

Father God, I give thanks that You sent your only Son, Jesus Christ, to protect us from those who seek to steal our salvation and to destroy us. I pray that your spirit overflows in abundance from me and that I can obediently listen to your will, honouring and glorifying your Kingdom in all that I do. Amen.

Response

We surrender every facet of our lives to Jesus who through him we can communicate with our Heavenly Father. Having direct access to God will allow him to mould us, and enable us to walk the path that he created us for - to obediently do His will.

WEEK 6 - DAY 40

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’.” - John 4:16

Jesus, being one with the Father, made a declaration to His disciples (and us) that the way, and the only way, to eternal life is to follow Him. We know that Jesus is the Word made flesh. All scripture is God breathed, and is perfect truth. Therefore, when we follow Him and believe in his words, we are pursuing God’s absolute truth.

Through believing in Him and modelling our lives on His, we receive the gift of eternal life. Jesus’ death opened a way for us to approach the throne of our Heavenly Father through prayer; we can surrender our sin and weakness to God so He in turn is able to transform us through the Holy Spirit, into the people of righteousness that He created us to be.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for the sacrifice You made to pay for my sins, past, present and future. Jesus I pray that I model my life on your way and the teachings contained within your Word. As I follow your way in my life, I look forward to eternity in your Kingdom. Amen.

Response

How can we live this out today?

We can surrender our sins to God to allow him to transform us into the people He created us for. We can undertake daily prayer, listening to Him and being obedient to His will. Spending time in the Word will ensure we stay on the path of righteousness all the way to eternal life.

WEEK 6 - DAY 39

“through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” - Revelations 22:2

A casual visit to your local pharmacy or health store reveals a great deal about humanity’s preoccupation with immortality and being eternally youthful. The shelves are burgeoning with anti-wrinkle creams, anti-oxidants, supplements and

all manner of herbal remedies and concoctions promising a longer, healthier life. Despite their expensive, fancy marketing campaigns and packaging, every product fails to deliver on its promises

Yet there is one answer, one perfect solution that not only promises the eternal life and glorified bodies the world seeks, but delivers unequivocally and without fail - Jesus. He can give us access to a Tree that provides all that and more. The unfortunate problem that the world has, is that its desire

is superficial, only skin deep. There are no products on the shelves for those seeking a transformed heart. Jesus delivers on this one too. Yet to receive the eternal life and glorified body, you must first desire the transformed heart through the eradication of sin, only possible through belief in Christ.

It is by the Cross - the tree of death, that Christ surrendered His life, so that we could have ours back, for all eternity. We may freely taste once more from the tree of life, experiencing the eternal life-giving nourishment that flows only from God, the ultimate source of all life.

Prayer

Lord, we thank you for the tree of life, which points us to the Cross, and to You as the One who restores us, brings us the
gift of eternal life, and an abundant life now through the Holy Spirit. God we embrace You each day as our only source of life. Stir in our hearts Holy Spirit and cause our eyes to be transfixed on our Lord and His perfect work on the Cross. Amen.

Response

Actively and intentionally, set your heart and mind on the Cross every day. Remember that it is by this tree of death, which Christ endured and defeated that we have been gifted, through God’s glorious grace, everlasting life.

WEEK 6 - DAY 38

“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’.” - John 7:38

When the Lord draws us to Himself and we first believe, He cuts out our old, lifeless and cold heart and gifts us a new heart of flesh that is alive, pulsing and beating in rhythm with Him.

When we submit our hearts to Christ and allow Him to be our sole source of nourishment, He generously pours His lifeblood into us through His Spirit. We become one with Him, united in desire, purpose and will, seeking to do only what we see our Father in heaven doing and saying only what we hear Him say.

His grace gushes into us, constantly flowing and moving as a blessing to those who believe. However, it is a flowing river, not a stagnant pond, and Christ intends for His abundant
life to be poured out through the heart of the believer as

the promised blessing to the world. We are the conduit for the Father’s love bringing living water that is refreshing, cleansing and restores to life those who come to drink from its never-ending fountain. This is not just a promise for the gift of eternal life, as profoundly amazing as that is, but

also a promise for fullness of life in Him here - of peace, joy, comfort, and the knowledge that we are unconditionally and lavishly loved right now.

Prayer

Lord, we thank you for your incredible grace and the abundant life that you so generously pour into us. We ask that your Spirit purifies and cleanses our hearts, so that through us your life-giving blessings may flow freely into the world. Amen.

Response

In this verse, Jesus asks us to do only one thing - BELIEVE in Him. This is the only precondition that qualifies us to carry and release the living water of the Holy Spirit. Surrender your heart to the work of the Spirit afresh every day and He will transform you into a vessel out of which cascades His life giving blessings just as God promised.

WEEK 6 - DAY 37

“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16

This is probably one of the best-known and loved verses
of the Bible. It is used as an invitation to salvation and as a reflection of the wide and deep love of God to the world. These verses remind us that God is the initiator of all things
to do with relationship and salvation. It’s so easy to subtly be making our own way to God, to find we are trying to author our own salvation through effort and good works. Instead of letting these familiar words wash over you try and read them slowly and deliberately. Read them several times. This is God’s love towards you, towards the family members, friends and colleagues you love who don’t currently know God. This is
an invitation to respond to God not to earn His love. Equally we see in these verses that deep love costs, and it means going towards the enemy, (remembering we have been the enemies of God). Real love, as God has in Trinity and we are invited into, will shift something deep inside us where love will motivate us outwards. We will find that sacrifice and personal cost are worth it because being loved so deeply by God needs to find its own expression in our lives. May we be people whose love looks like going, kneeling, leaving behind the glory and pointing the way to life and love eternal.

Prayer

God, how can I begin to grasp how all-encompassing your love is for me? How can I live deep into the truth of the love that comes to find me whatever state I have got myself into? God, would you give me a new glimpse of that love today and would You transform me with your love so that I can go a second and third mile to be love in difficult places. Thank you God, with all of me. Amen.

Response

Ask God to give you the grace today to love wider, to see a difficult colleague, customer or family member through the eyes of love. If God moves you, try to think of one practical way you can love a person who is hard to love. Could you genuinely pray God’s best for them? Could you let them know via text, email or in conversation something you truly admire or appreciate about them?

WEEK 6 - DAY 36

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” - John 11:25-26

As Jesus speaks to Martha outside the tomb of her brother, He is opening up an understanding to the depths of who He is. He says this to Martha before He calls Lazarus to come out of the tomb. The life that Jesus offers to us has implications and wonders here and now and in the future - a life of freedom now that also goes beyond the door of death.

What is it like to live a life that really has no fear of death? Surely it offers us freedom - we are welcomed to live a
life of total joy and abandon because we have no need for self-preservation. Our trust in Jesus and in His resurrection promise means that whatever may come at us, or for us, ultimately holds no power over us. The invitation is for us to place our faith in Jesus trusting His provision for both present life and a life realised in eternal future fullness. What an astounding and exciting invitation we have to throw ourselves into life.

How might our day-to-day living change if we lived like we believed it to be true?

Prayer

God, I am a person who allows fears to reduce my living. I have been frightened of other people’s opinions of me and I have adjusted my life to fit the boxes they have imposed on me. Forgive me, for living in small tombs of fear when You offer me a wide free life. Transform my mind and heart so I might understand what it is to live a resurrection life today. In your strength and with your help, for your glory. Amen.

Response

As you sit with God ask, “What is one practical way I could live more freely today and trust You more completely?” It might look like trying something you might fail at, giving an opinion you know might not be popular or offering friendship to someone who might reject you. We have nothing to lose because we are secure in the One who lost it all for us.
