“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.” - 1 John 4:18-19
Fear is something that all of us deal with at different times. It can be the fear of failure, fear of losing something, or someone or for many people, the fear of death itself. Fear has a way of paralyzing us, squashing our faith and robbing us of joy. As destructive as fear is, we have this incredible assurance in scripture that Jesus defeated the power of fear and has given us the ultimate power to overcome it - Love.
God’s perfect love has a way of making us safe and secure in the fact He is in control and that His presence is always with us. His love also means we can experience peace in every area of life because we are no longer slaves to the worries of this world - our perspective becomes eternally focused instead. His love reminds us that we are valued, we are precious and that our lives have purpose. Nothing can take that away!
Lord, thank you that in You we find love and that You are the bringer of joy. Lord, I surrender the things that cause me fear, back to You and ask that instead You would replace it with your incredible peace. Amen.
